Kadaster Data Platform - Overview Archicture

The Dutch Cadastre is publishing its geospatial data assets as Linked Open Data through the Kadaster Data Platform (KDP). The KDP supports the following three Linked Data browsing paradigms: (1) graph navigation, (2) hierarchical browsing, and (3) faceted browsing. Graph navigation uses the graph-shape of the RDF datamodel, to display concepts and instances as nodes, and properties between them as edges between those nodes. Graph navigation works well for explorative browsing. For graph navigation the KDP uses LODView (http://lodview.it), an existing OSS. Hierarchical browsing uses the tree structure of the concept hierarchy in order to display the various classes and properties that are in the data. A hierarchical browser gives the user a quick overview of the main classes and properties that are in a dataset. Hierarchical browsing works well for gaining an understanding of a concept schema. For this the OSS Linked Data Theatre is being developed (https://github.com/architolk/Linked-Data-Theatre). Faceted browsing is an advanced data browsing technique that turns the properties that appear in a dataset into widgets that can be set by the user in order to formulate a conjunctive set of filters over the set of instances that is described in the data. Faceted browsing works well for searching a specific instance. Triply has built FacetCheck, faceted browser that configures itself. For querying the KDP implements YASGUI: an integrated web service based on YASQE (a query editor that provides direct feedback to the user) and YASR (a versatile query results visualizer). Rough Set Semantics for Identity on the Web

Identity relations are at the foundation of many logic-based knowledge representations. We argue that the traditional notion of equality, is unsuited for many realistic knowledge representation settings. The classical interpretation of equality is too strong when the equality statements are re-used outside their original context. On the Semantic Web, equality statements are used to interlink multiple descriptions of the same object, using owl:sameAs assertions. And indeed, many practical uses of owl:sameAs are known to violate the formal Leibniz-style semantics. We provide a more flexible semantics to identity by assigning meaning to the subrelations of an identity relation in terms of the predicates that are used in a knowledge-base. Using those indiscernability-predicates, we define upper and lower approximations of equality in the style of rought-set theory, resulting in a quality-measure for identity relations

Frank: The LOD Cloud at Your Fingertips

Abstract. Large-scale, algorithmic access to LOD Cloud data has been hampered by the absence of queryable endpoints for many datasets, a plethora of serialization formats, and an abundance of idiosyncrasies such as syntax errors. As of late, very large-scale -hundreds of thousands of document, tens of billions of triplesaccess to RDF data has become possible thanks to the LOD Laundromat Web Service. In this paper we showcase Frank, a command-line interface to a very large collection of standards-compliant, real-world RDF data that can be used to run Semantic Web experiments and stress-test Linked Data applications

Observing LOD using Equivalent Set Graphs: it is mostly flat and sparsely linked

This paper presents an empirical study aiming at understanding the modeling style and the overall semantic structure of Linked Open Data. We observe how classes, properties and individuals are used in practice. We also investigate how hierarchies of concepts are structured, and how much they are linked. In addition to discussing the results, this paper contributes (i) a conceptual framework, including a set of metrics, which generalises over the observable constructs; (ii) an open source implementation that facilitates its application to other Linked Data knowledge graphs.Comment: 18 page
